We have tracked the coyotes day and night and located the collared coyotes more than 40,000 times. This allows us to peek into the hidden lives of urban coyotes. We use results from this unique project to answer common questions regarding coyotes in urban areas.

Their first animal, called “Big Mama” was caught in 2000. “She was a young, transient coyote that was not a member of a group,” says Dr. Stan Gehrt of Ohio State who directs the project. By 2002, she had settled down with an uncollared male friend (called, less warmly, “Number 115″), in a heavily-developed area a few miles from O’Hare International Airport. Together Mama and 115 have had at least six litters, producing 45 babies, and those babies now have babies. Big Mama’s large family seems to live very discreetly in Chicago. People hardly ever see them.

Jimi Heselden, 62, plunged into the River Wharfe Sunday while checking on the grounds of his estate in northern England, theTelegraph reported. He was riding on a “rugged country version” of the scooter, the paper said.

“Police were called at 11:40 a.m. yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above,” a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said today, according to British media reports.

“A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” the spokesman said. “At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious.”

Passengers on Thomas Cook flight TCX9641 from Menorca were told to expect an eight-hour wait while an engineer was flown out from the UK.

One passenger then identified himself as a qualified aircraft engineer and offered to try to remedy the fault.

He was successful, and the plane landed in Glasgow only 35 minutes late.

A spokeswoman for Thomas Cook said the company followed strict procedures to ensure the man was qualified to work on the aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, during the incident on Saturday…..

Sounds a little shady but if I guess he is a legit mechanic why not?

WARREN, Ohio – For some reason an Ohio woman was concealing not a weapon but a squirrel during a police interview.

Last Friday, Warren, Ohio, police detective Wayne Mackey was questioning a witness on a murder case and at one point in the conversation she bent over and out came a baby squirrel.

As you can see in the video listed to the right, the woman did not seem to be fazed at all and put the squirrel back inside her top and kept talking to the detective.

Detective Mackey was at a loss for words after this happened….

A man got the shock of his life when he opened a loaf of bread and found a whole mouse inside.

North Antrim Magistrates Court heard how a man purchased a Hyndman’s malt loaf from a supermarket in the Ballymoney area before Christmas 2007.

When he unwrapped the loaf he discovered the small lifeless mammal embedded in the base of the bread.

The judge fined the company, D Hyndman and Son Ltd, Maghera, £1,000 plus costs for placing unsafe food on the market.

The managing director of the company was present in court to answer the charge.

A defence lawyer told the court that the presence of the mouse was a shock to the company. He suggested it might have been put in the tin to “sabotage” the baker who has been in business for 60 years and has never had any complaints.

The Comcast cable technician was the only prosecution witness to testify Wednesday at Chris Philip Trikes’ preliminary examination in Livingston County District Court. The hearing ended with Judge Carol Sue Reader ordering Trikes, 45, tried on a charge of indecent exposure by a sexually delinquent person.

The charge carries a penalty ranging from one day to life in prison.

Trikes’ criminal history includes a misdemeanor conviction for indecent exposure in 1999, for which he was subsequently sentenced to 10 days of community service, probation and counseling…

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) – With a fox locked onto her arm, an Arizona jogger ran a mile to her car, where she was able to dislodge the animal, throw it into the trunk and drive to a Prescott hospital. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said the fox, which later attacked an animal control officer, tested positive for rabies.The unidentified Chino Valley resident told deputies she was on a trail Monday at the base of Granite Mountain when the fox attacked, biting her foot. The woman said she grabbed it by the neck when it went for her leg and it latched onto her arm.

Thinking the fox was rabid, she wanted to make sure it didn’t get away so she ran to her car, where she was able to pry open its jaws, wrap it in a sweat shirt and toss it into the trunk.

I finally got my hands on Bud’s American Ale, which seems simultaneously to be: 1) over-compensation for a company that’s no longer American, 2) an acknowledgement that new products, not just new ads, are the only way to grow in the US market, and 3) a legitimate beer.

Let’s start with the third point first. This is a real craft beer, not just a marketing gimmick. Bud has made a beautiful amber ale with a nice caramel malt note and a lightly citrusy hopping. They have dry-hopped it with Cascade hops (whole hops, apparently). I wouldn’t call it a transcendent beer, but if you did a blind taste-test with this beer and several other craft ambers, I suspect it would finish in the middle of the pack. It is, for example, Fat Tire’s superior–by quite a margin. I’m not a huge fan of ambers, but if I went to a party and this was in the fridge along with Corona, Widmer Hef, and Fat Tire, I’d be happy to grab the Bud Ale. And I’d enjoy it, too.

It’s not surprising that Bud has made a good beer. I don’t doubt that if Bud wished, its brewers could instantly produce a dozen excellent beers, and probably a world-class lager or six. The best, most well-trained brewers in the world work for Bud. They don’t brew world-class beers because they don’t wish to, not because they can’t.

Three questions spring to mind: why a craft beer, why an amber, and what does it spell doom for craft breweries?

When playing a practical joke, it’s not a good idea to douse your shirt with ketchup, pretend to be shot and have a fleet of police officers rush to your aid.

Brandon Garced, 19, is now facing charges after seven Bethlehem police officers went racing to a home Saturday after a frantic 911 call that a man had been shot and the shooter was still inside.

Officers surrounded the home at 1311 Hilton St. with weapons drawn and found Garced inside with ketchup on his shirt, yelling that it was all a joke, police said.

Garced is now charged with raising a false alarm, disorderly conduct and criminal conspiracy. He said little as he was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge Patricia Romig-Passaro and is free on $2,500 unsecured bail…

Rosemary Jacobs, 66, had painful face peels to remove layers of skin after it developed an irreversible grey tinge.

Her rare condition – known as argyria – began when she started taking nasal drops containing colloidal silver (CSP) at the age of 11.

Four years later a skin biopsy revealed a multitude of silver particles embedded deep beneath her epidermis.

“They told me my colour was permanent,” Mrs Jacobs said. “It was devastating.”

Now, after years of verbal abuse, cruel remarks and severe skin treatments, Mrs Jacobs is determined to raise awareness of the dangers of taking supplements and medicines containing silver.

Lake County Sheriff Mark C. Curran Jr. sentenced himself today to a week in his own jail, saying he believes spending time behind bars will make him a better cop and a better person.

“I believe that I can be a better sheriff by having a better understanding of jail operations from the perspective of an inmate in the Lake County Jail,” Curran said before being locked up. “I believe that I will receive significant introspection from staying in the jail with inmates for a week.”

Curran plans to live in a cell, eat jail food, mingle and talk with other inmates in common areas, while also attending numerous programs offered in the facility, including substance abuse counseling, parenting and educational classes, along with religious services.

That immersion, he said, should give him more insight into everything from safety issues to what programs may be needed help inmates straighten out their lives and avoid future crimes.

“My experience in the jail will help me to better understand our existing programming, as well as any possible unmet needs that exist in our programming,” said Curran, a 45-year-old former prosecutor elected sheriff in 2006.

Winged cats have been known to exist since the 19th century, but only a handful of people have actually seen one. But during a hot spell in China’s Sichuan province, cats starting to grow wings. Take one cat owner called Feng from Sichuan, she watched her cat grew wings on his back last summer because of stress after he was ‘harassed’ by females looking to mate.

“At first, they were just two bumps, but they started to grow quickly, and after a month there were two wings. Many female cats in heat came to harass him, and then the wings started to grow.” she told Huashang News.

Google.org, the public-spirited division of Google.com, charged with addressing “climate change, poverty and emerging disease,” is using the backdrop of the National Clean Energy Summit here in Las Vegas to announce a new round of clean energy financing.

In a nutshell, the company is investing an arguably modest sum — a little over $10 million — in the development of Enhanced Geothermal Systems, or EGS. The technology differs from “traditional” geothermal in that rather than exploiting existing wells of earthbound steam and hot water, EGS drills deep — miles down — to access layers of heated granite that exist underfoot everywhere on the planet. Water can be circulated downward for heating, and then upward to drive turbines and generate electricity….

In a bizarre publicity stunt, Dr Wei Sheng pierced the decorative needles in his head, face, hands and chest in the five colours of the Olympic rings.

The picture of Dr Sheng’s was taken in Nanning, Southern China, and demonstrates the patriotic fervour among the Chinese people in the build up to September’s Games.

Another Chinese man had the symbol of the Beijing Olympics tattooed on his forehead, the Games’ mascots on his chest and neck and various other images, including dragons and the Great Wall of China, tattooed all over his body.

Dr Sheng’s latest stunt was not the first time he had gained notoriety for sticking pins in his body.

Finially, the Brett Favre soap opera has come to and end and we can all go on with the rest of our lives.  Late Wednesday night the Green Bay Packers and the NY Jets came to an agreement to send the 3-time MVP to a new team.

Jets CEO Woody Johnson had this to say early Thursday.

“I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform,” Johnson said. “He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible team on the field.”
